Edith Emma Stewart (nee
Kelly) went to sleep peacefully Monday evening in her
Amherst home and woke up Tuesday, November 22, 2022, in the presence
of her Lord and Saviour, with whom she enjoyed a personal relationship
for 70+ years.
As a graduate of the PEI School of
Nursing, Class of 1951, Edith worked at the Amherst and Springhill
Hospitals in earlier years. Edith and her late husband, Floyd, spent
many years showing the compassion and love of Christ to families and
children in the Amherst – Oxford – Springhill
area. Her home was always open, and her phone always available for
those in distress or needing support. She knew what it was to weep
with those who weep, and to rejoice with those who
rejoice.
Edith was a well-known Christian in many
circles throughout the Maritimes and beyond and a faithful member of
the Amherst Gospel Hall.
She was the sweetheart mother of Stephen
(deceased), Rebecca (Leland) Swan, Lorna (Theodore) Chiasson, Joy
(Peter) Ramsay, Sylvia (Peter) Pitts, and Neil (Margaret) Stewart.
Adored by her sixteen grandchildren and twenty-two
great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband,
Floyd Stewart; her parents, Lorne and Charlotte Kelly; her brothers
Walter (Bea), Hammond (Helen), and Blair; and her sister Helen
(Arthur).
Edith (92) will also be missed by her
many nieces and nephews and her special sister-in-law Florence (Blair)
Kelly in Stratford, PEI.
