Tribute
Rev. Dwight Lyman Patterson left us to be with his Lord and Saviour on July 2, 2022 in his 94th year. Dwight was the youngest of four sons (Leslie, Charlie, Douglas) born to Robert and Harriet Mae (Virgin) Patterson. His boyhood years were spent on the family farm in Bromley, Ontario. After high school, he attended Briercrest Bible Institute where he committed his life to Christian Service. He met Lorraine (Paterson) while at Briercrest, and they married in August 1954. To further prepare for ministry he pursued a Bachelor of Theology at London College of Bible and Mission (now part of Tyndale). Thus began 40 years of faithful and fruitful ministry in Kingston, Lambeth, Seaforth, Kitchener, Pembroke, Milton and Dryden. It was his desire “to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up” (Eph 4: 12). His retirement years were spent in Elliot Lake and at Tollendale Village in Barrie; he continued to be actively involved in the Baptist church.
Dwight loved his family and was happiest when he was around them. Left with wonderful memories of him and an example of a life lived “worthy of the calling you received”… humble, gentle, patient, bearing with one another in love (Eph 4:1,2) are his wife, Lorraine (of 68 years); two daughters and their husbands, Phyllis and Jeffrey McGee, and Valerie and Peter Rout; and two grandchildren, Simon (Amelia) Rout and Maggie (fiancé Brian Haggett) Rout. We as a family look forward to being reunited with him in heaven. Dwight loved being with people; many extended family, friends, and former congregants will remember him fondly.
A Service of Thanksgiving will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 11:00a.m. at First Baptist Church, Barrie. A luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Barrie—CBOQ Mission Fund, or Hospice Simcoe.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Dwight Lyman Patterson December 3 1928 July 2 2022 (age 93)..
