A Celebration of Life
Born June 17 (Badulla, Uva Province, Sri Lanka)
June was a very private person, including about her age. This remembrance honours her wishes.
Died October 29, 2022 (Lacombe, Alberta, Canada)
June’s career in education spanned Sri Lanka, India, Kenya, China, and Canada over 50 years. As a professor at Canadian Union College (later Burman University) from 1992 to 2017, where she became Chair of Education, she trained hundreds of future educators in methods of teaching.
June was the loving mother of three children: Lorenzo, Roshani, and Jerusha. She was the special partner of David Fiorito for 45 years. She is survived by her sister Elizabeth; and pre-deceased by two brothers, Mervyn and Kingsley, along with her parents, Simon Peter and Jemima Benjamin. She was aunt to Geri, Marlon, Dave (Rollo), and Milroy.
Those who love her remember the feasts she would cook for her guests; her passion for flowers and gardening; and her unfailingly calm and quiet demeanour. She instilled in her children the will to succeed through education, and her love for travel.
Her legacy is that of an educator, doing good quietly.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.
