Obituary
Dr. Hany Youssef, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, friend and colleague passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at the age of 42.
Hany was born in Cairo, Egypt, before immigrating to Canada as a young child. He completed his undergraduate and medical education at the University of Ottawa before moving to complete his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Toronto. He worked as an anesthesiologist at the Montfort hospital in Ottawa and the North York General Hospital in Toronto before settling in as a fixture of the anesthesiology department at the Brampton Civic Hospital, where he worked tirelessly to improve patient care and provide excellence in service for both his patients and his colleagues. He also served a term as president of the Professional Staff Association of the hospital. He will be remembered by his colleagues by the unruly curls peeking out from his scrub cap, the billowing green gowns he wore, and his burgundy alligator OR shoes.
As passionate as he was about his work, his beloved wife Gen and his wonderful children, Alex and Nico, were the light of his life. He loved nothing better than travelling as a family, the more exotic the locale, the better. Disney cruises in particular are where some of his most magical memories were made. He wanted to show his family – and give them – the world. And he did so in spades. He was a foodie through and through and diligently attempted to eat his way through all the Michelin stars of Toronto. Hany was always larger than life. He lived loud, laughed louder, and dressed loudest. His shoes and jackets are legend.
Hany is survived by his wife, Dr. Geneviève Dupuis, his children Alexandra and Nicholas, his mother Dalal Ghali, his brother, Dr. Fady Youssef (Joannie), his uncle Gamal – who was a father figure to him, many extended family members who were friends, and friends who were family. He was predeceased by his father, Magdy Ramzi Youssef.
Details of the service to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Hany’s honour to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
