Douglas M. A. McLay, Superintendent (RTD) RCMP, passed away peacefully with courage and dignity after a hard fought battle with cancer.
He is survived by his beloved family, his wife of 54 years, Judy; son, Douglas (Trisha) McLay; daughter, Kimberly (Nevan) Krogan; grandchildren, Kailey, Dalton, Shayla & Nicholas; brother, David (Pat) McLay; sisters-in-law, Ina McLay, Connie (Ken) Rogan, Missy Geffen; brother-in-law, Larry Fisher; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives in Canada and the U.K.
Doug joined the RCMP in 1964 and was stationed in Alberta, Ontario, B.C, Newfoundland and Saskatchewan. He retired after 35 years of service as the Superintendent of the Red Deer Subdivison in charge of Central Alberta. In 1981 he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the University of Ottawa. After retirement, he started McLay Consulting Inc. and participated in many National Boards of Investigation.
Doug & Judy loved to travel and went on many amazing excursions all over the globe. He loved spending time with his family and treasured his many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date. We would like to acknowledge the kind and loving care received at the Red Deer Hospice and therefore ask that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 Arnot Avenue, Red Deer, AB, T4R 3S6.
