Douglas’ Obituary
Gogan, Douglas James – 89, Thomson Station, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 16, 2022 surrounded by his loving children. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Cassie Stonehouse. Doug will be remembered for his devotion and dedication to his wife and family. He was a good man, a man that made the world around him a better place. A visit with Doug included riddles, stories and laughter. He loved tinkering in the wood shop, wrangling for a good deal, snow drives in his Ford trucks, tractors, gardening and growing winter beans, taking care of the “Sparkles” strays and his love-hate relationship with small wild animals. He was an extremely honest, hardworking man retiring after over 30 years from Department of Transportation. Doug is survived by his children, Joy Porteous, Oxford; Cathy (Gordon) Embree, Oxford; Terry (Timothy) Wagner, Halifax; James (Tanya) Gogan, Collingwood; grandchildren, Charmen (Lionel) Baron, DJ (Sheldon) MacLean, Heather (Matthew) Jacklin, Melissa (Joe) Rushton, Michelle (Matthew) Haylock, Katelyn (Michael) Meade, Jessie (Irvin) Basilan and Colby Gogan; 22 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Virginia Stonehouse; Delores Royer, Elsie (Norman) Stevens; Ethel (Ron) Thomas; Lorna (Bruce) Stewart. He was predeceased by his soul mate Alma of over 50 years; grandsons, Jonathan Embree and Douglas Wagner; brothers, Wallace Perrin and Seymour Stonehouse; sister, Joyce (Bud) Sloan; sisters-in-law, Doris Perrin and Ada Colborne. Following Doug’s wishes no service will be held. A private burial will take place in the spring with family and friends at Thomson Cemetery. If so desired, donations may be made to Thomson Cemetery or Millvale United Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home and Crematorium.
