Obituary
FORSTER, Douglas Cameron: Passed away peacefully on November 29, 2022 at the age of 82.
Doug was the middle child of Dr. Douglas and Sheila Forster of Simcoe. Brother to John Forster (Jane) and Gail Browne (Edward) both of London. He spent his childhood on the waters and beaches of Lake Erie, the football field and hallways of Simcoe Composite School. He could be found on summer weekends dancing at the Ken Mar in Turkey Point with his first love Sally Herries and at the track of Mosport racing his Austin Healy Sprite.
He continued his education at Albert College and the University of Waterloo, and his greatest lessons and satisfaction came from his life as a celebrated businessman. He started his career in banking in Toronto and the entrepreneurial spirit was strong leading him to become President of the Credit Bureau of Stratford in 1970. He was an incredible visionary, an innovator who was respected by his industry which he represented regionally, nationally and internationally. He had a keen eye for opportunities and created a multi-generational family business that stood the test of time for over 52 years. Up until his final days he was still asking about staff and pining for meetings and dreaming up deals.
Loaded with charisma and natural charm, people were drawn to him. When you connected with Doug, you felt the spark of his passion for life, adventure, and family. He found lasting love when he met and married his devoted wife Bea, over forty years ago. They shared a love of boating, golfing and spending time with friends together in Florida and Normandale.
His two daughters, Tracey Ivanyshyn (Bruce) and Sherry Moraca (Serge) were his pride and joy. He taught them how to ski, sail, fish, drive cars, boats, motorcycles, and how to dream big and achieve, say I love you with your whole heart and read the waves. He was a gifted storyteller and many a night was passed listening and learning. His sense of humour, jokes and trademark sayings were legendary. Doug loved his two stepdaughters, Laura Dockx (Mike) and Heather Osborne (Dave). He was an adventurous and dedicated grandfather to Carlin, Abbey, Sarah, Kate, Ashley, Eric and Sarah. He was consistently entertained and uplifted by his great grandchildren Serena, Isla, Spencer, Margaret, Blake, James and Quinn.
A life lived fully, Doug, also affectionately known as: Doogie, the Duke, Sarge and Bubba. Doug loved to sing “When you walk through a storm hold your head up high and don’t be afraid of the dark…..walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart and you’ll never walk alone”.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 11, at one of his favourite spots, the Erie Beach Hotel, Port Dover. Enter directly from Walker St, look for the door that says Harbour Hideaway. We will gather at 11:00, his favourite lunch will be served at 12:00 followed by a time to share stories together casually. If you don’t have time to come for lunch, please feel free to come for a visit at 1:00.
