The family of Charles Douglass Sweezey are saddened to announce his passing which took place suddenly at the Region 7 Hospital on the night of April 28th. He is survived by his wife Susan (Duke), sons Mark Sweezey of Miramichi and Matthew Sweezey (Alisha) of Big Hole Tract.
He is also survived by two brothers Arthur Sweezey (Barb) of Moncton, David Sweezey (Rebecca) of Quispamsis. Doug is also survived by his grandchildren Sloan Sweezey and Militaw Sweezey of Big Hole Tract.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, George and Bessie (Orr) Sweezey, brother Paul Sweezey and son Christopher Sweezey.
Doug was a graduate of Harkins High School (1969), NBCC Moncton as a Stationary Engineer (1971), and NBCC Miramichi in Silvicutlure (1983). He worked for Lounsbury Automotive as a car salesperson before working a 30 year career with Correctional Services Canada at the Atlantic Institution as a driver and later a power engineer upon upgrading his Stationary Engineer certification. He retired from the Atlantic Institution in 2017.
Doug was an avid hunter, angler, and firearm enthusiast. He enjoyed his family and found a new lease on life in retirement when his first and second grandchildren were born. The girls referred to him lovingly as “Bumpy” and he was so proud of them. He would light up in their presence and cherished every hug and kiss he received from his sweet girls.
The family will receive relatives and friends from Northumberland Funeral Home on Monday, May 9, 2022, from 4 to 8 pm. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at 2 pm, from The Point Church, with Rev. Kevin Matthews officiating.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to a memorial of one’s choice.
