It is with great sadness the family of Dorothy Wood announce her passing on January 5, 2022, at the age of 85 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 66 years, Earle, daughter Maureen Colclough (Arthur), Laura Baron (Jamie), Renee Dorgan (Reed), Ben Colclough (Shina). Son-in-law, Craig Sparrow (Yvonne), Miranda Wood-Sparrow (Catlin), Chase Wood-Sparrow (Amera), Carlin Richards (Kevin), Jaden Wood-Sparrow (Chloe). Dorothy’s pride and joy, her 5 great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Katherine Baron, Carter and Hannah Dorgan, and Dax Richards. Dorothy was predeceased by her dear daughter, Marilyn Wood-Sparrow, and by siblings Elsie and Elsie’s twin sister Wilhelmina, Henry, Adelle, Herbert, and Louise. Her brother Edwin Forrieter is the only surviving sibling from the family of 8 with Dorothy being the youngest.
Dorothy was born in Bruno Saskatchewan and at the age of 2 her mother passed away quite suddenly so she was cared for by her elder sisters and her mother’s sister, aunt Barbara. She married Earle Wood in 1955. They farmed for many years in the Vanscoy area. Dorothy also worked for The Bay for 27 years in the stationary department. She was a very active member of the community and her church. She loved to socialize no matter whether it was a card party or going to a square dance jamboree. She liked to participate in funny skits put together in the community to celebrate milestones. Dorothy was an organizer and was never afraid to spearhead a committee whether it was in the community or her church.
But most dear to her heart was her family, including her extended family. She was always interested in what her 7 grandchildren were doing and loved to celebrate their milestones. Then when the great grandchildren arrived, she was even more delighted!
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Team at St. Paul’s Hospital, especially Dr. Johnson, for the excellent tender loving care she received for the 4 months she spent with them.
Funeral service will be Tuesday January 11, 2022, at 10 am at St, Paul’s Lutheran Church on Taylor Street East for immediate family and invited guests only. Memorial donations may be made to Palliative Care C/O St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation,1702 20th Street West, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan S7M 0Z9.
