Dorothy’s Obituary
Dorothy May Webb (Cook), in her 95th year, of Oxford, Cumberland County, passed away peacefully after a short illness, at the Cumberland County Regional Health Care Centre surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 11, 2022. Dorothy was born May 6, 1928 in Salt Springs, Cumberland County, the daughter of Alberta and Herbert Cook. She was a devoted member of the Little River United Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School superintendent for many years and was a founding member of the Ladies Church Circle. Dorothy grew up at the Canadian National Railway station in Salt Springs where her mother was the station agent, before marrying the love of her life Ronald Webb. She and Ronald lived on the Webb family farm in Little River for over 65 years until Ronald’s passing in 2017. Dot, as she was known to many, had a passion for writing, authoring two self-published books chronicling her experiences growing up at the Salt Springs’ station and the many memories of her full and blessed life. She was also a long-time contributor to the Oxford Journal as the Little River correspondent. Dot was an avid gardener, loved to bake, always had a pot of tea waiting for anyone who happened to stop by for a visit, and enjoyed many hours seated at the piano as accompanist for Ronald’s fiddle playing. Dorothy’s love of family and strong faith sustained her throughout a long, happy and healthy life. She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Patricia (Peter) Shelton, Bedford; Lynn (Brian) Gomes, Fall River; son, Alan (Wendy) Webb, Gulf Shore; grandchildren, Lisa, Steven, Janet (Graham), Joanne (Joey), Michael, Riley and Tanner (Robyn); step-grandchildren, Blair (Erin), and Craig (Naomi); great-grandsons, Teddy and Grayson; and step-great-grandchildren, Matthew, Claire and Anna. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald, and sister, Grace Irving. Arrangements are under the care and guidance of MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford. Visitation will be held Friday, November 18, at Little River United Baptist Church from 12-1 pm, with the service at 1 pm, and reception to follow in the Church Vestry. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre or the The Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
