Obituary
Dorothy (Valley) Philippon-Latimer
September 10, 1925 ~ April 7, 2022 (age 96)
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Dorothy Philippon (nee Valley) on April 7th, 2022 at the age of 96 years. Dorothy passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family and friends at Cassellholme.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Frank and Orella (nee Ross) Valley, husbands Lucien Philippon and Archie Latimer, brother Howard Valley, sister Blanche Dalton, daughter Cecile Credger, son Ron Philippon, grand-daughter Sharon Credger, and her latest dearest companion Jimmy Zwezdaryck.
She is survived and deeply missed by her brother Jerry Valley, daughters Claudette Wilson (Ray), Diane Halaby (Siy), Monique Peters, Nancy Farkas (Don) and daughter-in law Lina Philippon (late Ron). Fondly and forever remembered by her eight grandchildren Jean-Paul Philippon, Marc Philippon, Carole Wettergreen, Luc Wilson, Danielle Wilson, Alyssa Braun, Leanne Farkas, Tori Farkas and her three great grandchildren Nathan, Sarah and Adelia.
Also deeply missed by her extended honorary family whom she loved dearly as her own – Johnny Zwezdaryck (Velia), Jeanette Audette (Richard), her soul sister Geri McBurney, close friend Barb Islam and her dear friend and bestie roommate of over two years “Rolly” Atkinson.
Dorothy was a wonderful and bright spirited lady who would fill any room with sunshine with her smiles and jokes. She was well known as being an amazing cook having owned her own restaurant “The Starlite” in Kapuskasing that was frequently visited by legendary Stompin’ Tom Conners who would stop in especially for her super delicious tomato macaroni soup. Mom’s meat pies, cabbage rolls and fabulously spicy spaghetti sauce were the best ever! Her home-style, mouthwatering cooking was also famous in Manitouwadge having cooked at several camps, restaurants and for neighborhood families during her years there. She relished the great outdoors and spent most summers camping and later on “glamping” at her favourite camp sites in Northern Ontario. An avid sewer, crafter and knitter, she spent countless hours enjoying her skills and sharing her creations with family and friends. In her later years, you could find her knitting her famous colourful dish clothes that she would so happily donate to Pet Save and at times surprise her YMCA friends with at Easter or Christmas. Dorothy also loved to dance and enjoyed getting out and kicking up her heels with her dance partners, mostly with her beau Jimmy at the Kapuskasing Golden Age Centre.
Dorothy’s family would like to convey their heartfelt thanks to the entire team at Casselholme. Particularly to the loving and caring staff on Maple Street where she gave them plenty of giggles and a run for their money with her jokes and antics. The family would also like to express our deepest and heartfelt gratitude to Dorothy’s daughter Monique who was her primary care giver and passionate advocate. Mom referred to her as her Guardian Angel, having spent relentless time caring and bringing so much love, joy and happiness to Mom during her final years and we will be forever grateful.
Cremation has taken place as per Dorothy’s wishes and a Celebration of Life will be arranged for family and friends at a later time.
Dorothy adored the many rescued cats she adopted and her fur-babies had a very special place in her heart. In remembrance of Dorothy’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Pet Save Inc. rescue organization or your favourite charity.
We will love and miss you forever Mother but we know you are now DANCING to your heart’s content!!
LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND BACK and LOVE YOU MORE MOM!!!
