It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy May Stark announce her passing peacefully on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the age of 101 years at Bethany Home in Sylvan Lake.
Dorothy is survived by her only son, Donald William (Pat) Stark of Edmonton; two grand-daughters, Lori (Brent) Wagner of Stony Plain, and Shelly (Ed) Burton of Sylvan Lake; five great-grandchildren, Brandon and Travis Wagner of Stony Plain, Evan Burton of Red Deer, Calvin and Amy Burton of Sylvan Lake; two sisters, Jessie (William) Flinkman of Wetaskiwin and Gertie Kuzmiski of Oyen; sister-in-law Lois Levick; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
She was predeceased by her parents William and Mary Levick; her husband John Stark; good friend Heinz Hallex; four brothers, Jim and Earl Hurley (step siblings), Harry, John (Vivian) Levick; four sisters, Jennie (John) Havanka, Alice (Len) Youell, Nora (Dave) Ingram, and Nellie (Stanley) Brown; and brother-in-law Stephen Kuzmiski
She was born in Sibbald, Alberta, March 28, 1920 where she grew up, later leaving home to live with her step-sister Nellie. She met John when he worked for Nellie and Stanley where they fell in love and later were married on August 22, 1938. They started farming while John kept a mail route with help from Dorothy, who also helped him with the chores around the farm.
Dorothy was an avid curler, as skip most times, she played ball, and loved to dance around the kitchen when the girls were young and stayed with them, most summers, on the farm. We wish we would have got some of her recipes before she passed as she was an excellent cook. She chopped wood for exercise and grew big gardens. She also worked with Elections Canada on many elections in USONA district and was very involved in the community. Dorothy always enjoyed playing many card games, especially smear amongst friends and neighbors.
The family would like to extend a big thank-you to the nursing staff at Bethany Home in Sylvan Lake for their care over the years.
A private family service will be held from Baker Funeral Chapel, Wetaskiwin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to charity of your choice or Bethany Home in Sylvan Lake. (4700 – 47 Ave., Sylvan Lake, AB, T4S 2M3)
