Dorothy Ellen (Day) Serroul
Little Bras d’Or
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Dorothy, on Monday, March 7th, 2022 at 92 years of age. She was best known as Ma or Nanny. She was the youngest and last surviving child of the late Vincent and Louisa (Colvey) Day. Ma was a lifelong and devoted member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Little Bras d’Or and a long-time member of the CWL (many pies and pans of brownies were made for “the Hall” over the years).
She is survived by her children, Gena (Peter) Burchell, Lloyd (Sherry Johnston), Giselle (Robbie) Pero, Walter (Beth Barrie), and Alana (Gordon Purves); 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold “Harry” Serroul in 2003, son Harold “Hal” (Ellen) Serroul in 2007 and daughter Emily (Rick) Hinks in 2016. She was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters; Irene (John LeBlanc); Wally (Regis Jessome); Maggie (Gordon Nugent, Arnold LeBlanc); Melinda (Alex Ross); Juanita (Seward MacLean); Hartland (Gertrude Somers); Gordon (Sarah Long); Betty (Hammond Musgrave); Billy (Juanita LeBlanc); Joey (Nellie Devoe); Les (Mary Walker); Lawrence (Mary MacIntyre, Sheila Reilly); and Eugene (Winnie Carrol).
We would like to thank the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home, Theresa Terrace and My Cape Breton Home, North Sydney for their care, compassion and friendship.
Visitation for Dorothy will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, March 14th, 2022 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A Funeral Mass and celebration a life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at St. Anne’s Church, Alder Point with Rev. Chinonso Alaribe presiding.
Covid-19 restrictions will be in place with the wearing of masks and social distancing at the wake and funeral. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fund.
