Dorothy Ann Meadows (nee Lausen) passed away peacefully on December 22, 2022, at the age of 91 years. Dorothy is survived by her four sons, daughters in law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Earl, her parents William and Leona Lausen, and her brother Leroy Lausen. She is survived by her twin brothers, Robert and William Lausen and her sister Irene Maaskant.
Dorothy, a true daughter of the Prairies, will always be remembered for turning her hand to the many things in working with Earl to a happy, laughter and music filled farming family home, four lucky sons the result.
Even her gardens grew as though honoured. She was a trusted friend to neighbours, and involved with school, community and church activities in Blackie, Gladys Ridge and Dinton, Alberta, also including United Church Women’s events, and community dinners and dances.
Dorothy’s education included four years at the James Short School for the Deaf in Calgary. As a result, she showed everyone, especially her boys, that challenges, and occasional heart-breaking fearful situations, can be met with inventive twists and courage.
Not only did she enjoy her at-home piano playing, but also taught the boys dance steps for their singing group, The Meadowlarks. Dorothy even found a way to play with the entire family in the Blackie Community Band. Also, as the number one supporter of the family dance orchestra (Meadolaires) in which husband Earl, Father Bill, brother Bob and her sons played for many years, happy to teach, confident of the beat felt from the dance hall floors. With children, grand and great grandchildren, shared meals, and family reunions were Dorothy’s much-loved favourites. Occasions even more memorable thanks to her enthusiastic hard work and her infectious laughter. She will be sadly missed, but so happily and gratefully remembered for the gifts she has left behind.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Makhdoom, and the staff at Walden Age Care in Calgary, for the excellent and compassionate care of Dorothy during her time there.
A private family interment will take place on Thursday December 29, 2022, at Gladys Union Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her loving husband Earl. A gathering to honour Dorothy will be announced at a later date
