She was predeceased by her husband Mervin (Buff).

Cremation has taken place and a
memorial service will be held in the spring with ash interment at
Snowflake Cemetery.

DOROTHY GOWER (nee Dick) May 9, 1929 – December 23, 2022
Dorothy Gower died on December 23, 2022 at Prairie View Lodge, Pilot Mound at the age of 93. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Alayne Pearen (Cliff) and son Gary Gower; grandchildren Ryan Pearen (Shawn Friesen), Tessa Pearen and Natasha Pearen (Eric McLaughlin); great-granddaughters Sophia and Alexa Pearen, Marie-Katherine and Isabelle McLaughlin, as well as her sister Hazel Nobes and brother Ken Dick (Doreen). She was predeceased by her husband Mervin (Buff), her parents Abram and Katherine Dick and her brother Clarence.
Dorothy Agatha Dick was born and grew up in Roland MB. After taking a summer course she taught at a one-room school at Pelican Lake. In 1948-49 she went to Normal School in Winnipeg. After graduating, she went to teach at Snowflake. There she met Buff and they were married in 1950.
Dorothy was a working mother in the days when this was uncommon. Over the years she taught school, managed the Snowflake Co-Op store, worked in Morden and helped Buff with the dairy farm. They retired to Morden in 1987 but sadly, Buff passed away in 1992. Dorothy was heavily involved as a volunteer – 4-H leader, Morden District Library, Thrift Shop, Hospital Auxiliary and Morden Seniors Centre. She was very involved with the United Church – first Snowflake, then St. Paul’s in Morden. She held various positions in the church and the UCW at the local, presbytery and conference levels. She enjoyed two trips to Newfoundland through the church. Dorothy also travelled twice to England and various trips within Canada.
Dorothy enjoyed having the grandchildren at the Snowflake farm on holidays when they were young. She took great pride when her granddaughter Natasha became a United Church minister and was overjoyed when her first great-grandchild, Marie-Katherine, was born on her 80th birthday.
Dorothy always had a large garden and made great home-cooked meals. She was also an excellent baker. She took pride in that she never used a mix when making a cake. Her grandchildren always looked forward to her cupcakes and cinnamon buns. When her granddaughter Tessa lived in Korea, she would send brownies to her in the mail.
Dorothy was a voracious reader. She always had a book on the go and a few waiting to be read. She did not hesitate to tell the library of the new books they needed to order. Dorothy had an opinion and was not scared to voice it. Sadly, Dorothy was robbed of her ability to read in her last years.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in the spring with ash internment at Snowflake Cemetery. Details to follow.
