Obituary of Doris Hunter
HUNTER: Doris Mae (nee Stacey) –
A resident of Raleigh Township, Doris Hunter passed away at the Chatham-Kent Hospice on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at the age of 103 1/2.
Born in Chatham, Doris Hunter was the daughter of Arthur and Mable (Wilcox) Stacey.
Beloved wife of 59 years to the late Trueman Hunter (December, 2001).
Loving mother to Brenda DeNure (Reg), the late T.R. Hunter (August, 2022) (Linda), the late Stacey Hunter (October, 2002) and Beth Walters (Dennis).
Proud grandmother of 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by two great-grandchildren, Jocelyn McGlynn (Aug 2020) and Kyle Chinnery (Mar 2021).
Dear sister to Donna Sutherland (late Jack). Predeceased by her sisters Mary Manning (late Frank), Eunice Robinson (Allan) and Bessie Owen (late Hubert).
Also missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Doris graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1941, working at St. Joseph’s hospital and in private nursing, eventually retiring as the Director of Nursing at Victoria Home.
Mom enjoyed spending time on the farm with family and friends playing cards, bingos.
Special thanks to the staff of Chatham Retirement Resort for their compassionate, loving care of Mom for almost 11 years.
A Private Family Service will be held with an interment to follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery.
