Doris Lucille Kinnear Reid Wednesday April 27th 2022

KINNEAR, Doris
1933 – 2022
Mrs. Doris Lucille (Reid) Kinnear of Red Deer, Alberta passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at the age of 89 years. Doris was born in Readlyn, Saskatchewan on February 12, 1933. She was the youngest of the family, born to James and Mary Reid. Her father was a carpenter, and her mother was a teacher. Her father passed when she was a young child, leaving her mother to raise the family. Doris and her two brothers helped all they could to keep the household running, as their mother taught school. In 1950, she married Fred Kinnear and began farming seven miles east of Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. They worked together planting, harvesting and everything else in between. To this union came two children, Beverly and Robert. During the winters, they enjoyed playing old time music and played for several dances in the area, as well as several wedding dances for various neighbors. They often took their instruments when they went camping and always drew a crowd. In 1967, they sold their farm for a new life in Red Deer, Alberta. Dad took on a job at MacLeod’s and Mom found a job at the Red Deer Co-op in the bakery. If that wasn’t enough, she attended the Red Deer College, receiving her Certificate for a Teacher’s Assistant. She worked at Annie L Gaetz School for two years in that capacity. In 1972, they moved to Kelowna, British Columbia. There, she found a job at Sears; where she worked for seven years, before she transferred to Sears in Red Deer to be closer to the family. Doris later worked for Canada Post, as well as other jobs with Woodward’s, and later the Bay. She worked tirelessly until 2002, when she retired. The best way I can think to describe Mom is “she gave unselfishly of herself to others.” She always found a way to make each person feel special. Despite working so hard, she always had time for family and friends, always helping, sharing and encouraging. She had the uncanny skill, when someone dropped in, to create a fantastic coffee break, or meal, before their eyes as they visited. It never seemed like an effort. Family dinners were a monthly affair, with a grand buffet with every trimming possible. Doris was an active member in the Order of the Eastern Star and recently celebrated sixty-five years of membership. During those years, she held several offices in the organization and became a Grand Representative to North Carolina, United States. She and Dad travelled to many locations through their lodge work. She and Dad enjoyed about seventeen trips to Arizona, United States during the winters. Doris will be lovingly remembered by her children, Beverly and her husband, Stanley Flinn of Red Deer, Bob and his wife, Carol of Red Deer; her grandchildren, Tanya (Flinn) Mullakady and her husband, Ranjit, Winston and his wife, Melissa of Red Deer, Candice (Kinnear) Preuter and her husband, Josiah of McCreary, Manitoba, Kari (Kinnear) Walker and her husband, Sawyer of Calgary; and her great grandchildren, Simran of Vancouver, British Columbia, Erica of Red Deer, Emersynn of Red Deer, Nathanael, Isaiah, Zephaniah and Elias, all of McCreary, Manitoba and Aisling of Calgary. Doris was predeceased by her husband, Fred, in 2002, two brothers, Elvin in 1997 and Gerry in 1977; as well as her parents, James in 1942 and Mary in 1975. If desired, Memorial Donations in Doris’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society at www.reddeerhospice.com. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
