Doris Hilda Warke March 22nd 1927 June 11th 2022

WARKE, Doris Hilda
March 22, 1927 – June 11, 2022
Doris was born in Bentley, Alberta and spent her childhood years on the Castleman family farm northwest of Bentley with her brother Donald, and her parents Sophie and Henry.
She attended ‘Outlook School’ for her early education, boarded in Lacombe for her high school years, and then attended Normal School at the University of Alberta in Edmonton where she earned her teaching certificate. One of her early teaching positions was at the Glenellen School southeast of Red Deer. She boarded with the Charles Warke family who just happened to have a very handsome son, John. As luck would have it, they fell in love, married, and raised a family of four children on the family farm.
In later years, Doris and John moved to an acreage overlooking Pine Lake. After John’s death, Doris moved to an independent living residence in Red Deer.
Doris loved her community of Glenellen, the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, and the Pine Lake area as well. She was active in many community organizations including the Pine Lake Women’s Institute, Glenellen Ladies’ Club, and as a Sunday school teacher at Pine Lake. She was also a member of the Plus 40 group at the Pine Lake Hub, and spent a number of years on the board of the Westerner, volunteered at the Ellis Bird Farm Tea House… just to name a few. She was an avid and very creative crafter, quilter, sewing whiz, knitter, marvellous baker and cook, gardener, and overall a woman of many talents.
She spent many hours helping John on the farm in addition to running four very busy and active children to various clubs, events, and activities.
Doris enjoyed a very full and successful life with John, her family, and her friends. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Susan Cumby (Ed), Wendy Taylor (Nick), Lyle Warke (Shannon), Terry Warke (Paul Harris); 11 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Audrey Derksen, two nieces and three nephews, and their families, many good friends, and neighbours.
Doris was predeceased by her beloved soulmate, John; two grandsons, her parents, and other family members. She will be fondly remembered by those who loved her.
A drop in tribute to a life well lived will be held at Glenellen Community Centre on Sunday, July 24, 2022 from 2-5 pm.
At Doris’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Glenellen Community Centre or the Holy Trinity Anglican Church at Pine Lake.
