Dorelene Carol (Hancock) Anderson, passed away peacefully at her home in Harriston, on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, in her 88th year.
Wife of Douglas Anderson.
Mother of Linda McFadden and her husband Ken of Elora, Brenda Camplin and her husband John of Owen Sound, James Anderson and his partner Liz Balderston of Victoria, B.C., Mary Welsh and her husband Gerry of Harriston, Stephen Anderson and his wife Nancy of Chesley, and Peggy Raftis and her husband Patrick of Harriston.
She is also survived by her 20 grandchildren, Julia (Matthew) Stuyt, Kyle (Jessica) McFadden, Jordan (Sulan) Camplin, Brooke (Trevor) Jay, Jessica (Anthony), Samantha (Brian), Katrina (Jean-Leon), and Ian (Samantha) Anderson, Christine, Ryan (Jacquie), Stacey, Jennifer & Lindsay Welsh, Whitney (BJ) Irvine, Courtney (Orrie) Alexander, and Brady Anderson, Megan, Christopher (Michelle), Braeden, and Erin (Caleb) Raftis. Dorelene was the proud grandma of 26 great-grandchildren, Vanessa & Owen Stuyt, Anthony, Sean, Bentley & Grayson McFadden, Marlee & Hunter Camplin, River & Ariana Jay, Logan Lagaree, Harvey Graham, Riley & Chloe Seabrook, Keenan, Ryder, Francis & Mara Welsh, Nora, Sadie, (Pennington) & Pheona Nieuwenhoff, Xander, Gage & Memphis Irvine, and Leah & Beau Alexander.
Sister of Margaret McElhinney of Silton, SK, and sister-in-law of Betty Hancock of Brampton, and Joyce Whittaker, Bob Anderson, and John Anderson, all of Harriston.
Predeceased by her brother Frederick Hancock, and by brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Duncan and Dorothy Watson, Ted Whittaker, and Rev. Marshall McElhinney.
She was born in Toronto and moved to Harriston where she met and married the love of her life, Doug Anderson. They shared more than 68 years of marriage, working together operating a successful dairy farm, raising their six children, and being actively involved in their community.
Dorelene was a dedicated wife and mother; supporting and being involved in her children’s lives whether it was coaching and cheering for their sports, leading 4-H or teaching them how to cook or sew, she was always willing to give a helping hand wherever needed.
She will be greatly missed by many as Dorelene was a dedicated volunteer in the community. She was a long-time member of the Harriston Minto Fall Fair, the Beehive Women’s Institute, the Horticulture and Seniors clubs and the Grey Wellington Theatre Guild, to name a few. Doug & Dorelene square danced for over 45 years and attended numerous conventions nation wide. She also was a member of the Ontario Horticulture Board, serving as a director for six years. Dorelene was an avid sewer, oil painter and a prize-winning cook, well known by many as the best pie maker around.
Visitation will be held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at Harriston United Church on Monday, July 4th at 11:00 a.m. Please wear a mask to the funeral service. The funeral will be live-streamed and the link available here shortly.
Interment in Harriston Cemetery.
Memorial donations to Palmerston & District Hospital or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
