Obituary
It is with sadness and love that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother at age 87 on February 9th with her family by her side in Edson, Alberta. Mom is remembered by her children, Bill (Peggy) and John (Shirley), Sue (Kerry), Maria, and Noreen (Jeff), 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was committed to her family and especially enjoyed baking “grandma bread” for them and spending time with them at the family farm. Her commitment to family extended to her sisters and nephews and nieces, whom she also treasured. She will be greatly missed.
Mom was born at the farm near Lafleche, Saskatchewan to Rene and Margaret Desanghere. She grew up as the oldest of 6 children in a hard-working family with siblings Alice, George, Cecile, Irene and Blanche. Mom grew up on the same farm and attended school through to high school in Lafleche.
Mom married our father (Robert) on June 30th, 1952. They immediately moved to Grand Forks, British Columbia, later to Kenora, Ontario and eventually settled in Edson in 1958. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2002. She was a farm owner, housewife, volunteer and bread winner as necessary. She completed her working life at Switzer’s Drug Store after more than 24 years of service. She took great pride in volunteering and made significant contributions to the Alberta Fish & Game Association, the CWL, the Pine Grove Community, and the Old Timers Cabin in Edson. Mom loved to play horse shoes, cards, bowl, and really enjoyed floor curling in her later years.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 19th at 1:30 pm at Sacred Heart Church in Edson, Alberta. Masks and social distancing remain in effect in compliance with current COVID restrictions. A private family celebration of life will follow.
