Obituary
Doreen passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. She was born December 23, 1936 in Freelton, Ontario.
Beloved wife of John Hobbs. Survived by daughter Suzanne, sons Barry and Brian (Karen). Loving grandmother to Myranda, Taylor, Ashley and Jonah and aunt to Donna (Dave), Kathy, Carol, Michael and Jennifer (Jeff). Predeceased by her parents Harry and Winnifred Anderson and sister Dorothy Wyse.
Four themes distinguished Doreen’s life. First people – she was brought up in a village where she knew everyone and as she moved on it was like she had a mental diary that was updated from time to time keeping track of her friends lives and their children.
Second, she was a student all her life starting from the time she attended a one room school, then on to Dundas High and the University of Western Ontario followed by many continuing education courses at the University of Toronto, music groups and visits to the Stratford Festival.
Third was the piano. Playing the piano was how she relaxed, but it also helped her pay for university as she played at a Hamilton tap dance studio and in a band that played at a Muskoka resort. At university, she was much in demand to play at fraternity parties.
Fourth was sports, mainly bicycling and tennis. She was brought up with a tennis court across the street from her home and it was on a tennis court in the Town of Mount Royal where she and John met. She played at the Oakville Club and was a keen fan of all the tennis tournaments and attended the tennis at York many years. Cycling was a feature for holidays – barge and cycle tours in Holland and many years of trips to her favourite cycling area – Hilton Head Island where another passion – bird watching often caused a sudden halt for a sighting.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. If so desired, donations to the Stratford Festival or the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Doreen Grace Hobbs December 23 1936 January 9 2022..
