Obituary of Dora Olsen
Dora Joyce Olsen passed away at Villa Marie, Red Deer, Alberta, January 17, 2022 at the age of 100 years.
Dora Joyce Olsen was born in Lashburn, Saskatchewan on October 27, 1921 to Sam and Amy Graham. She met the love of her life when she was sixteen and married Fredrick Thomas Olsen on November 11, 1942. They lived on the family farm ten miles north of Neilburg Saskatchewan. Keith was born in November 1943 and gave his life in the ministry until his passing on February 10, 2012. Ross was born in March 1947 and lived with his wife Marilyn in the Lethbridge area until his passing on January 16, 2015. Roy was born in December 1949 and lives with his wife Elaine in the Rocanville area. Victor was born in May 1955 and lived with his wife Leanor on the home farm and Lloydminster until her passing in December 2018. Victor continues to reside in Lloydminster following his marriage to Sandra.
Fred shared the gospel story with Dora as they worked side by side on her parents farm. She made her choice to serve God at Greenshields convention in the summer of 1947. Her faith and love for God grew stronger through the years and remained until her last breath.
After Fred passed away, Dora moved off the family farm on December 23, 2003 to Barrett Place apartment in Red Deer, Alberta. On November 27, 2012 she moved into Pines Lodge for a little more care. After a health event, Dora moved to Villa Marie supportive living on April 24, 2014 where she resided until her passing.
Grandma Dora, as her friends called her, touched many lives. She will be remembered for her loving kindness and her heart of thankfulness.
Dora was predeceased by: her parents Sam and Amy Graham; husband Fred; sister Kay Olsen and husband Norman; brother Alec Graham and wife Hazel; sons Keith and Ross; daughter-in-law Leanor; great grandsons Brennan, Bryer, and Jacob Olsen; and granddaughter-in-law Alyson Olsen.
Dora is survived by:
Son Roy and Elaine Olsen and their family. Candice and Phil Stewart, Samara, Keithan, Rhett and Grady. Jarvis and Sarah Olsen, Daudi, Adair and Liam. Carla and Tim Shultz, Gavin and Dane.
Daughter-in-law Marilyn Olsen and her family. Neil and Monique Olsen, Adam, Jennekah and Jillian. Nancy Olsen, Tait, Zachary, Preston and Georgia.
Son Victor and Sandra Olsen and their family. Wendy and Shane Stafford, Amy and Ella. Lawrence and Julie Olsen, Colby and Brielle.
Sister-in-law Shirley Olsen as well as numerous extended relatives and special friends from every part of the world.
The family would like to extend a very special thanks and appreciation to the staff on Supportive Living Second Floor at Villa Marie for all the care and love that has been shown to Grandma Dora over the past 8 years.
A Time of Visitation for all family and friends will be held from McCaw Funeral Chapel, Lloydminster, Alberta Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 7:00 – 8:00 PM (MST).
A Private Family Service for Dora will be held Friday, February 4, 2022 at 11:00 AM (MST).
The private family service will be live streamed. The link for the service will be posted on McCaw Funeral Service website under Dora’s obituary at the time of the service.
Donations in memory of Dora may be made to Wycollar/Manitou Memorial Cemetery (please make cheques payable to RM of Manitou) or donor’s charity of choice.
