Obituary of Donald I. Hapeman
Dr. Donald I. Hapeman age 93 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Saturday April 2, 2022 at home. Donald was born April 3, 1928 in Elmira, NY the son of the late Earl Jackson Hapeman and Augusta Sterling Hapeman. Don was also pre-deceased by his brothers and sisters. He was a World War II Veteran serving his country with The US ARMY 82nd Airborne Division. Dr. Hapeman married his first wife Catherine Boyce Hapeman and she pre-deceased him on January 16, 1991 as well as his grandson Timothy Donald Boyce Hapeman. He married his second wife Ruth Lanterman Brown Crippen Hapeman and she pre-deceased him on March 15, 2013. Dr. Hapeman started Hapeman Chiropractic in Elmira, NY in 1950 and his daughter Donna Hapeman-Rodriguez and his son-in-law Gilbert Rodriguez continues as Hapeman-Rodriguez Chiropractic in Elmira, NY. Dr. Hapeman was a long-time volunteer at Eldridge Park and The Habitat for Humanity. He was an avid reader and was constantly studying new techniques to help his patients. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of The Corning Consistory. Dr. Hapeman loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them including his patients. Dr. Hapeman is survived by his children Pam and Michael Wirsch of Auburn, California , David E. and Andrea Hapeman of Richardson, Texas , Dr. Donna Hapeman-Rodriguez and Gilbert Rodriguez of Horseheads, NY ; his grandchildren: Megan & Lewis Lockhart , Peter & Cindy Wirsch and Matthew Wirsch , Catherine & Greg Chesser , Shannon & Ben Rice , and Rachael Hapeman , Jared Rodriguez and Gabriel Rodriguez; eleven great grandchildren. Ruth’s children: Joan Troger & Earl Bacome , Jeannette & James Cunningham , Harland & Glenda Brown , Gerald & Maureen Brown , David & Shirley Brown , and their families . Many thanks to Jerry Brown for his loving care of Dad. Thank you also to Dr Alek Rupik for taking care of a most stubborn/headstrong patient. Relatives and friends are invited to call at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1060 West Broad Street Horseheads, NY on Thursday April 7, 2022 from 3-6 PM . Dr. Hapeman’s Funeral Service will be at 6:30 PM with Bishop Peter Sedlak officiating. Dr. Hapeman will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery next to his wife Catherine on Friday at the convenience of the family where Full Military Honors will be accorded Dr. Hapeman.
