Donald (Sandy) Alexander MacLeod, 78 years old, living in Vernon, BC passed away peacefully on August 27, 2022 at Vernon Hospice House from pulmonary fibrosis. Sandy was born in Glace Bay, NS in 1944, son of late Don H. MacLeod and Margaret (McCormack). He was an only child, and during his family’s summer visits to Catalone he loved to torment his cousin Annette McCormack by locking her in the outhouse, getting covered in tar while fishing, or playing with cap guns! He adored his dogs throughout his life and let everyone know that Nipper (his first dog) was the smartest. In December 1971 he married his sweetheart Patti, and moved to the Arctic in 1972 spending 7 years working as an Upper Air Technician and enjoying fishing and snowmobiling. In 1978 he moved to Fort St. John and worked at the airport as a meteorological technician for 21 years. Sandy loved creating and designing and after retiring from the Gov’t he began his dream job building houses in Fort St. John B.C. In 1999 Sandy and Patti moved to the Okanagan and built a beautiful home on their acreage just outside of Vernon. Gardening was another passion of his. He loved planting flowers, shrubs and trees. His talent for designing the landscape was amazing, bringing his vision for the acreage to life. He was fiercely loyal to his friends & family, extremely generous with his time, advice and money, and was also stubborn and never wrong. He loved a challenge, was highly competitive and rarely lost a scrabble or snooker game. He loved his family very much and was always there when they needed him. Sandy was a devoted husband to Patricia (Bradley), loving father to Corri Snyder (Rob), and adoring grandfather to Brody MacLeod and Chloe Snyder. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him. His final resting place will be at Loch End Cemetery in Catalone, N.S. Donations in Sandy’s memory can be made to North Okanagan Hospice Society (NOHS), 3506 27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C.
