1941-2022
Donald E. MacDonald, age 80, of Lower
Barney’s River, passed away in the Aberdeen Hospital on
January 4, 2022. Born in New Glasgow on June 22, 1941, he was a son of
the late Angus and Ollie MacDonald of Hillside, Trenton. He is
survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol Ann (Young) MacDonald;
daughter, Margaret (Philip) Oakes; daughter-in-law, Debbie MacDonald;
grandchildren: Christopher (Laura) Oakes, Lyndsay Oakes, Kayla, Nick,
Jenna and Brett MacDonald; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces
and nephews; sister-in-law, Dorothy Campbell; brother-in-law, Robert
(Betty) Young; sister-in-law, Peggy Young. Besides his parents, he was
predeceased by his son, Steve; sister, Joan Campbell; brothers:
Sheldon (Shirley) Campbell; Stewart Campbell; sister-in-law, Helen
Young; brother-in-law, Wayne Young. He was a member of the Merigomish
United Church. He worked for Eastern Transport and several other
trucking companies before purchasing Cliff’s Taxi, which he
and his wife operated for 14 ½ years before retirement. Due
to COVID restrictions, a private funeral will be held on January 6 at
R.H. Porter Funeral Home, Trenton. Family flowers only please. Any
donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit c/o Aberdeen Health
Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society. Special thanks to Dr. Gregor
MacLean, Dr. Kwasnik and the Palliative Care team at the Aberdeen
Hospital and the VON for their excellent care over the past several
months.
