It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Lundgard on February 14, 2022 from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Donald will be lovingly remembered by his wife Betty of 58 years and their children Michael (Teresa) and Christine (Kevin) and three grandchildren Darren, Emily, and Cassie. He was predeceased by his son Darren, his parents Oscar and Clara, and his sister Anita.
Donald was born on February 22, 2022 in Claresholm, Alberta. He was the oldest child of Oscar and Clara Lundgard and the sibling to brother Gerald and sister Anita.
Donald and Betty married in 1963 and were blessed with three children, – Michael, Darren, and Christine. They lived in Edmonton for the first few years of their marriage where Donald completed his Air Traffic Control training. They then spent a couple of years in Calgary and moved back to Edmonton.
Donald loved the outdoors and he and Betty were avid campers and fishermen. There were many family camping trips and adventures over the years. As their children got older, they loved travelling to Campbell River and Kitimat to salmon fish on the ocean.
He hated the snowy winters and loved to travel to the Palm Springs area for a few months each year. He and Betty would drive the motorhome to escape the cold and enjoy some time with good friends in the sunshine.
Donald was very proud of his grandchildren. He was always at one sporting event or another cheering them on. He loved to watch hockey games, soccer games, basketball, and even dance and acrobatics. He loved to take his family fishing and share his love for the water and nature. Donald also loved his faithful dog Lexi, who was always beside him.
The family would like to thank the staff at Grandview Extended Care and Dr. Yu and the staff at the Grey Nuns Hospital on Unit 51 and Unit 43 for their excellent care.
A private family service will be held at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Donald Lundgard 2022..
Death notice for the town of: Edmonton, Province: Alberta
I was saddened to read of Don passing away, but the memories of the pleasant times we shared will be with me forever, especially celebrating our birthday on the same day – Feb 22.
May he rest in peace
Sorry to hear about Don’s passing. He was my mentor/monitor in Calgary Terminal when I went IFR. His debriefing sessions on my performance, conducted sometimes at the Airliner Inn, were very to the point. Never did have that lutefisk dinner.
