Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Donald “Don, Donnie” Leland Porter announce his passing on Tuesday April 26, 2022 with his daughter Dawn by his side at Rocmaura Nursing Home, Saint John NB. Born in Doaktown, NB on October 14, 1943, he was the son of the late Margaret O’Rilla Canney.
Don was a logger most of his working career, he continued the old school logging ways with his horses. Don started logging at a young age in his hometown, Doaktown NB. Don left his hometown to move to Western Canada where he continued logging with his horses. Don also had a love for salmon fly fishing. He was a guide on the Miramichi to many out of country fishermen. Hunting was also a sport Don loved. Don’s biggest love was travelling all over the BC with his horse, to participate in the horse haul competitions with his buddies, one buddy in particular; Calvin Buchta, and his wife Jan Hounsell. Don also had a business in Prince George, BC; a Horse Ranch in his earlier days. He offered old style wagon/sleigh rides, as well as the old Western style overnight camp outs around the fire. Don had a love for travel as well, and for camping.
Don is survived by his two daughters; Dawn (Larry) Hunter, Angela Gander, two sons; Donald (Elaine) Porter, Ryan Konaby. Two step children; Tracy (Mario) Pascuzzi, Richard (Stacey) Simon, six grandchildren; Wade Hunter, Blake Hunter (Jordan Eisner), Amanda (Chris) Fortin, Devon Porter (Raylena Estey), Brandon and Randall Gander. Five step grandchildren; Matthew Simon (Amber), Annalise Simon (Gavin), Joey, Nicholas, Melissa Pascauzzi, one great grandson due in July (Blake and Jordan), one sister Sharon (Noel) Counsil.
