SYKES, Donald John Delorma (November 7, 1930 – March 10, 2022) –
It is with sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our much-loved father, grandfather, and friend to many, Donald John Delorma Sykes, on March 10th, 2022, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital with loving family at his side, in his 92nd year. Born in Kamsack, Saskatchewan, to his late parents John Franklin Sykes and Anna C. (Bowen) Sykes. Donald is predeceased by his wife of 55 wonderful years, Dora Marie Jean Sykes (2012). Survived by his caring children and grandchildren.
Donald worked at Livingston’s Industries as a plant electrician and later was a teacher at Glendale High School for 30 years. Donald was an Optimist Club Member, Ducks Unlimited supporter, and member of the former Brownsville United Church, then Avondale United Church.
In keeping with Don’s expressed wishes, a public traditional funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 12th, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg, by Pastor Ted Smith, of Courtland United Church. Burial will take place on Saturday, March 19th, in the Tillsonburg Cemetery. Public visitation will take place on Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. (service time). Attendees will no longer need to RSVP; face masks are required indoors until March 21. A livestream of the funeral service will be available for those wishing to attend digitally.
