With much sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Donald John “Don” Cameron, 82, on Monday evening, April 19, 2022, under the compassionate care of the staff of Unit 4C at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Don was born in Louisbourg on December 22, 1939, and was the third child and only son of Gordon and Christine (MacCuish) Cameron.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margie (MacMillan); niece, Deborah (Bud) Kerr, Bedford; nephews, Barry Greer, Dartmouth and Bruce (Shauna) Greer, Calgary, as well as many grandnieces and nephews.
Don was predeceased by his parents, sisters, brothers-in-law, Jessie (Bob) Greer, Florence (Jim) Coletti and niece, Gillian (Bob) Sutherland.
Don worked in the Railway Department of Sydney Steel for 30 years, where he made many lasting friendships. He was a man of great faith and, over the years, an elder and active member of Zion Presbyterian Church, Louisbourg. He and Margie enjoyed their winters in Florida and Texas and spent over 20 summers camping at the Arm of Gold Campground, Little Bras d’Or, where they became part of the Brennick family.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 23 from 2-3 p.m. in Sydney Memorial Chapel, followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Kevin Richardson and Rev. Bob Lyle officiating. Interment will take place in Loch End Cemetery, Catalone.
Memorials may be made to charity of choice.
