Donald Hawkes 19292022

Donald Hawkes
1929-2022
Donald Hawkes, 92, of Fundy Royal Manor passed away on July
17th, 2022 at the Moncton Hospital with his loving daughter and family
by his side.
Donald was born in Curryville on September 18th, 1929 the
son of the late William and Myrtle (McCuspey) Hawkes.
Don was a hard worker; he worked in the woods,
also drove an Oil Truck for John Downey and last worked for the
Government on the road crew keeping the sides of the roads
clear. He met the love of his life, Betty
(Lounsbury), and they started their married life together in Woodworth
Settlement. This is where they made their home.
Don and Betty had a daughter and she was their pride and
joy. Don was a great provider and a caring dad. He
was a family man who put his family’s needs ahead of his own and made
sure they were looked after. He was always a true Albert
County Man who loved the outdoors and enjoyed the simple things in
life.
When things got to be a bit much to look after , Don and
Betty made their home in the Kiwanis Apartments in Hillsborough, they
stayed there for 23 years and made many good
friends.
Don had a great memory and he loved to
reminisce about the old days and how he loved his time in
Hopewell Hill. He collected events and obituaries from the
newspaper and was a real history buff, he knew all the local news and
enjoyed reading about the daily happenings in Albert County and the
surrounding areas.
When Betty’s health declined, Don even moved into Forest
Dale Home just to be with Betty in her last days as a
compassionate husband, not really needing that level of care
for himself at that time. He just wanted to be by her side
as they were never apart and celebrated 67 years together.
Her loss was hard on him but he moved to Fundy Royal Manor and was
happy to be there and had friends he knew from the old days to talk
with.
He was so excited when the grandchildren, then
great-grandchildren and his great-great grandchildren came.
They were all precious to him and he always wanted to be around them
and know what was going on in their lives and his face would light up
as he held the new arrivals just this last spring.
Don will be remembered for his kind, gentle manner and he
always had a smile.
He is now reunited with his beloved wife
Betty.
He will be deeply missed by his daughter,
Donna Wilson (Brent) of Riverview; grandchildren, Carolyn
Collier (Pat) of Germantown and Doug Wilson of Edmonton, AB; his
treasured great-grandchildren, Josh (Natasha), Ryan (Leighanne), Jade
(Ryan), Jenna-Mae, Jayden (Tammi), Ethan, Hannahand Charlee; adopted
great-grandchildren, Aiden, Brianna and Rae-Ann; his precious
great-great grandchildren, Scott, Madeline, Kaydence, Audrey and
Kensleigh; sister-in-law, Mary Bailey and by several nieces, nephews
and many friends.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his beloved wife,
Betty; his sister-in-law, Cora Steeves (George); brothers-in-law,
Lloyd Lounsbury(Eva), Pete Lounsbury, Blair Lounsbury (Jean), Ernest
Lounsbury and Gary Bailey
