It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Fralick, 82, of Blue Rocks, announce his passing at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater on Thursday, April 7, 2022.
Born in Lunenburg, he was a son of the late Stanley and Ella Jean (Knickle) Fralick.
Earlier Years growing up in Blue Rocks was a busy time with lots of fun playing with all the kids in the area. By the time Dad wad 12 , he was earning his way to buying his first source of transportation. Brand new bike called the Red Molly. Which his sister Christine borrowed and ran into the Blue Rocks school house. Of course caused damage. And was never forgotten! But forgiven. Christine was his biggest fan and support for life.
After working his first job in the Herring Plant in Blue Rocks he continued working at the Cold Storage Plant in Lunenburg carried over to the new plant “National Sea Products”. Onward to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans sailing on the F.P.V “Chebucto” and F.V.P “Cratena ” until his retirement. In his retirement years he was a fixture in the village, chatting up the tourists visiting the area, meeting artists. He was a very sociable and friendly guy, enjoyed visiting with friends for a beer or two, or three. He made the paper on a few occasions. As well you will see him as an extra in a few movies, that were filmed in the local area.
Oh the memories of the good old days when you get dressed in your finest and go to the dances. My Dad loved dancing and dressing sharp. When he had that Elvis Presley look going on. He and my Mom looked gorgeous when they left the house for a night out on the town. He also loved playing cards, with 50″s and 60″s music playing in the back ground. With the tea sandwiches and sweeties on the table. And he loved to cook, listen to his country music, watch his game shows in the evening and great pleasure talking on the telephone.. He seemed to be quite proud that he owned 18 cars over his life time. Fell over the side twice in the water and survived. Couldn’t swim! Lucky Duck!. After that he ran with the nickname “The Duck”
Most important in my Dad’s life was his sister, family, close friends and neighbors throughout the years who supported him with friendship and kindness. The biggest loss for my aging Dad, were the loss of those friends. He never thought he would out live them. He said at the end “Loneliness changes ones self” He missed everyone dearly.
Donald is survived by his daughter, Nancy, Blue Rocks; grandchildren, Damara (Alex) Garland, Rose Bay, Shay (Ashton Peel) Mossman, Northwest; great-grandchildren, Layla, Hudson; sister, Christine Tanner, Lunenburg; brother, Albert (Delores), Garden Lots; son-in-law, Gordon Mossman.
