Donald’s Obituary
Bent, Donald Francis – 97, of Lawrencetown, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2022 in Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Lawrencetown on January 15, 1925, he was a son of the late Samuel and Rhoda (Slocomb) Bent. Dad started his meat cutting career at the early age of 15, working beside his father peddling meat on the road. Dad worked cutting meat in Bridgetown, Digby, Cornwallis Base, and ending his meat cutting career at the Beaver Fruit Co-op, Lawrencetown with 28 years of service. Dad worked hard his working life and always made sure his family was well taken care of. Later in life in his senior years, Dad loved to read books. His favorite were old country and western novels. His son Graham will always cherish the times spent with Dad at his cottage at Trout Lake. Fishing and travelling the trails out South on their ATVs. Dad hated having his picture taken but every time his granddaughter, Nicole visited, he knew there was going to be a photo shoot and there was no getting out of it. Surviving are his wife of 75 years, Shirley (Lowe), Lawrencetown; daughters Donna Bent, Lawrencetown; Joy Taylor, Port Williams; sons David (Donna) Bent, Elmsdale; Graham (Judy) Bent, Middleton; grandchildren Krista Jensen, Port Williams; Jennifer Bent, Elmsdale; Nicole Bent, Pleasantville, Lunenburg County; Brianna Bent (Trevor MacCulloch), Nictaux; Jayden Bent, Middleton; great grandchildren Chase Snyder, David “Little David” Connell, Amberlynn Connell; sisters Rhoda (Matthew) Pembleton, Lawrencetown; Ruth Bent-Bartman, St. Jean, Que; brother Terry (Susan) Bent, Lawrencetown; sister-in-law Shirley Bent, Lawrencetown. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Perley. Special thanks to the nursing staff and doctors at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital and the Senior Homecare by Angels Caregivers for the excellent care that Dad received. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will follow at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown.
