Donald’s Obituary
Donald Earl Hoppe
Donald Earl Hoppe, 88, passed away Monday, November 28, 2022, in Veteran’s Place, Yarmouth. Formerly of Acaciaville, Digby County, Don was originally from the Kitchener-Waterloo area, Ontario. Born on February 23, 1934, Don was the son of Raphael “Earl” Hoppe and Mary Beatrice Biehn; brother to the late Earl Leroy “Lee” Hoppe and the late Yvonne Hoppe. Don was predeceased by his first wife, Emilda Gaudet and his second wife, Joan Melanson of Acaciaville.
As a Korean War Veteran and after twenty-five years in the Royal Canadian Navy, Don worked and lived in Weymouth for a number of years and then retired in Acaciaville with Joan. Don was a private person but kept engaged with many facets of life around him like current events, reading books and the latest developments in fuel efficiency cars. Home and family meant a great deal to him. He enjoyed taking drives in his cars, good movies, spicy food and his sweets but he would especially like to warm up to another cup of tea. All of this with his dry sense of humour and sometimes abrupt manner made him unique and he will be remembered as well as missed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Meteghan Funeral Home. There will be no visitation. A private service will be held at a later date at a family plot in Ontario.
A particular thank you to the staff of Veteran’s Place for their kindness and care during the last three years.
