Obituary
Donald Earle MacGregor of Chatham, NB, husband of the late Ella (Delano) MacGregor, passed away at Losier Hall on Sunday, March 6 ,2022, at the age of 92. Born in McKinleyville, NB, he was the son of the late Lula (Gallant) and David MacGregor.
Dad leaves behind sons: David (Gloria), Gary (Debby) and Kelvin (Norma) all of Miramichi, NB; daughters: Debbie (David) Isiah, Moncton, NB and Karen (Michael) Traer, Halifax, NS; daughter-in-law, Lois MacGregor, Miramichi, NB; sisters: Lois (Pete) Kunyz, Londonderry, NH, and Muriel Taylor, Middle, NJ; grandchildren: Colin, Shane, Scott, Billy, Erin, Samantha, Matthew, Andrew, Josh, Daniel, Patrick, James and George; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Dad is predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Ella (Delano); son, Blaine; infant brother, James; brother, Ken; and sister, Dorothy (Miller) Harper.
After 35 years working for the Province of New Brunswick as a Heavy Equipment Technician, Dad retired to enjoy traveling, gardening, and time with his grandchildren. With Mom by his side, they enjoyed their travels to Scotland, across Canada and the USA. He had several wonderful visits to the Yukon and Alaska in his later years. Everyone who knew Dad was aware he enjoyed a good game of cards, often counting all hands before anyone else had a chance. Carpentry was one of his gifted skills. We all benefited from this when we were building and repairing our homes. Dad’s garden was enjoyed by many friends, neighbours and family. His flower beds flourished under his gentle care. Dad was always willing to quietly lend a hand to anyone in need. He was a member of the Highland Society; actively involved for over 70 years with the Calvin Presbyterian Church in various roles including sitting on the Board of Managers; volunteered his time to deliver Meals on Wheels throughout the Miramichi. Affectionately known as “Grampy”, his love and his presence in our daily lives will be deeply missed.
At Dad’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral. A public burial will be held at MacKinleyville – Cochranville Cemetery, MacKinleyville, NB on Tuesday, June 7th at 2pm with Derrick Carnahan officiating.
Our family would like to express our sincere thanks to Dr. Gerard Losier for all the wonderful care Dad received. Dad so enjoyed and respected every visit with Dr. Losier. Thank you to the staff at both the Miramichi Hospital and Doyles Court, Losier Hall. Your care and kindness will always be remembered.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Calvin Presbyterian Church or MacKinleyville – Cochranville Cemetery Fund would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements are entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, telephone (506) 773-3492, or messages of condolence may be sent online to www.adamsfh.ca
