Obituary
ST GERMAIN, DONALD ‘’DON’’ VAL JAMES December 17th 1966 – July 5th 2022
It is with great sadness that we mourn Donald (Don) St Germain. He is survived by his Dad, Germain St Germain ‘’Germ’’ (whom he referred to as the ‘’tribal elder’’), his brother David (Sudbury), predeceased by his Mom Janice (nee Skillen) 2011-05. He will be missed by his aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A void is felt by his closest friends, Jim ‘’Jimbo’’ Cox (Wasaga Beach), Claire Quenville (Quebec City), Mary Dro & Jacques Duhaime (Sudbury), Don Gervais, Laura Gervais (Sudbury) and Eleen.
Donald, (Don or Monsieur Don), as many knew him, was a man of great intelligence, wisdom, wit, vivid imagination, and memory. He truly had a heart of gold. He never shied away from telling those closest to him how he felt, offering compassionate listening and a big warm hug. To have Don as a friend meant he could be counted on for his wise counsel, a helping hand or just a good laugh. A kind old soul, who was always rooting for the underdog. He believed that everyone deserved a second chance which he selflessly gave.
His unique voice echoed through the radio waves of CKSO radio in Sudbury, where he worked as a DJ. His voice could again be heard over the air waves of ABC taxi where he dispatched for many years and forged very close friendships that remain today. His laughter, love for radio jingles and ability to quote hundreds of his favourite movies can still be heard by those closest to him.
Don had the ability to inspire and captivate everyone he met with his attention to detail, passion, and vast knowledge of history, specifically WWI, II and beyond. He had a unique gift for story telling which made him an amazing teacher for his students at MacDonald Cartier secondary school in Sudbury. It was his dream to become a teacher and he proudly succeeded. Monsieur Don made learning fun.
He had many interests, hobbies and loved all things related to the RMS Titanic, warships and trains, science fiction (Star Wars & Star Trek), D&D (which he played for years with close friends), model painting, his precious feline babies, Mischa, Otto & The Bismarck (predeceased), slapstick sarcastic humour and going for breakfast at Gus’s Restaurant.
He will always be remembered for his smile that lit up a room, his generosity, his sensitivity and for being a true chivalrous gentleman.
To quote his favourite Captain, Edward J. Smith, RMS Titanic: ‘’Final turn to Starboard. Your crossing is complete’’. Rest easy friend to all, you will never be forgotten and be forever loved. Your heart will go on.
As per Donald’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at, a later date.
