It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Donald at Bluewater Health, Sarnia, on Friday, July 29 at the age of 86. He is survived by his dearly beloved wife of 64 years, Elizabeth and their 5 children; Steven David, Scott David (Patricia), Laurie Putt (Al), Brad David (Louise Dixon) and Craig David. ‘Papa Don’ was also cherished and loved by his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Mary David of London, Ontario and his 7 brothers and sisters: Cecil, Wesley, Dorothy, Marion, Mary, Wilfred and Gerald.
Donald was born in London, Ontario where he grew up playing many sports. He then moved to Sarnia with Canadian National Railway as a Carman. After 38 years of keeping the railcars safely on the tracks, he retired in 1993. In his spare time, he loved working in his garden providing fresh vegetables for his family; relaxing at their cottage (‘the nest’) in the Bruce Peninsula; and just playing with and enjoying his many grandchildren. Donald will always be remembered for his passion for music and was always known to spin a few records on the turntable and cut a few rugs on the dance floor.
A private service will take place at Resurrection Cemetery for the immediate family. As per Donald’s request, a celebration will be held in the near future to share the many stories and memories of his life.
The family would like to thank the Bayshore PSWs that helped provide care and support for Donald over the last couple of years. They would also like to thank the palliative care nurses and Dr. Crombeen at Bluewater Health in Sarnia.
Arrangements entrusted to The Smith Funeral Home 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
