Donald Blanchard “Don”
White – 74, Belmont.
It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Don White, announce
the sudden passing at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, on
Wednesday, February 16, 2022. Don was the son of the late Walter and
Ellen (Blois) White of West Gore and Truro.
Athletic in high school, Don won many awards in track and
field. Later in life golf became a passion. He first joined the Armed
Forces serving in Germany with the Canadian Army tank corps.
In 1970 Don switched careers and completed his plumbing and heating
technology degree. After graduating he worked for a few
years with Hatfield Plumbing and Heating. Then in 1979 Don and Georgie
started White’s Plumbing and Heating serving the Truro
area. Later, son Jeffrey joined the business, father and son
working side by side. Right to the end, Don enjoyed helping
all his customers and friends.
From an early age, Don had a great love of the outdoors. He
was an avid fisherman and skilled hunter, first with his father
Walter, then with his son, Jeffrey, later with his granddaughter,
Megan as well. His wife, his children, and his grandchildren
were a top priority to Don. Some of his happiest times were spent at
the cottage on the lake with his family.
Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years,
Georgie (Warwick); children, Jeffrey, Julie, Jason, and Jamie
(Courteny); grandchildren, Megan, Jake, Declan and Dollena; sister,
Marilynn (Bill) Linley; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his
parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Delta and
Donna.
He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father and
grandfather. It goes without saying that Don was loved by his family,
friends, community and all who knew him. He will live on
forever in their hearts and memories.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you pay it forward through a
random act of kindness and give someone the opportunity to say thank
you. A special note of appreciation goes out to the nurses and staff
of Colchester East Hants Health Centre where he received the best of
care.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Don’s
family will receive friends from 2-4, 6-8 p.m., Sunday, February 20,
2022. Truro. (Please use the main doors of the
funeral home, wear a mask and provide photo identification and proof
of vaccination; thank you for your co-operation.)
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, February 24, 2022, at
Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro,
Reverend Glenn MacLean officiating. (Maximum of 75
people are permitted to attend the funeral service; please
pre-register by calling the funeral home at 902-893-3177. Proof of
double vaccination must be presented before entry to the funeral home
and masks must be worn; thank you for your
co-operation.) Webcasting
