SHANTZ, Donald Micheal “Kapper”
Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Baden, Ontario, on Monday, August 22, 2022. Don was born 68 years ago, on December 24, 1953, a son of Oliver and Elsie Shantz whom he will be missed dearly by.
Beloved husband of Jill Shantz whom he devoted 43 years of marriage to. Cherished and loving father of Jodie Evans (Paul Mohr) and Micheal Shantz. Proud grandfather of Max, Riley and Carter Evans and Hunter Shantz. Don will be dearly missed by his brother and sisters; Rick Shantz (Doreen), Chris Albrecht (Brent), Jennifer Martin (Kevin) and Dawna MacIntosh. Brother-in-law of Tony Ward (Leslie Merhar). Don will be missed by his mother-in-law Florence Ward and numerous nieces, nephews, their families, and his many friends and co workers over the years. Predeceased by his father-in-law Kenneth Ward.
Don was a long haul truck driver with Erb Transport for 20 years and part of the International Freight Systems. He was a devoted community man, volunteering his time at Nithview Community for 6 years, and serving as a volunteer firefighter for 10 years on the Baden Fire Department. Don loved his role as a crossing guard at Sir Adam Beck School in Baden where he met many individuals over his 4 years. Don enjoyed time camping, water skiing and fishing with his children, and playing cards with friends and family. He was always there for his family and many friends.
Don’s wishes were met with courage and pride. Cremation has taken place and relatives and friends are invited to the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg, on Monday, August 29, 2022, from 7 – 9 p.m. and again on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 from 11 – 1 p.m. A private family time will take place following.
As expressions of sympathy, donations in Don’s honor will be accepted to Boston University School of Medicine for concussion and brain injury (CTE) research. (Charity notes – please comment CTE Research).
