Dolores was born in Lashburn, SK but spent over 30 years of her life in the Northwest Territories. She retired to Penticton in 1989 and lived there until her passing.
She had many friends in Penticton and spent time at the Penticton Seniors’ Drop-In Centre, the Elks Hall, Cherry Lane and at Okanagan and Skaha Lakes.
She enjoyed playing cards and other games, being outside, lawn bowling, walking and cooking.
Dolores is survived by her children, Cindy, Garry (Kim), Richard, Gordon (Edna), Peggy (Stan), Robert (Jena) and Jennifer (Blair); grandchildren, Erin, Christopher (Trae), Jeffrey, Jonathon, Kyla, Kaitlyn (Mike), Emily, Bradley (Jessie), Jesse, Tia and Adam; great-grandchildren, Chanelle, Lukas, Jasmine, Adalyn, Emily, Lane, Auden, Mason and Kaylen; great-great-grandson, Noah; sisters, Bernice Dunkley and Alice Dunkley; brothers, Donald McKinley and Stacey McKinley.
She is predeceased by her grandson, Donovan Johnson; sister, Georgina Henke and her parents.
Dolores spent most of her days out in her community. Riding the bus, and walking to do her errands etc. Dolores spent that time to connect with those around her. She offered general greetings of “Hi or How are you”, but more often than not she would stop and listen someone’s story, she would offer them words of encouragements, a KIND hand on their shoulder, an understanding smile and at times a coffee or a few dollars to help them through their day. Dolores was passionate about the members of her community that had day to day struggles; mental health issues/illness, addictions, and homelessness. She offered them kindness, support, a listening ear with compassion and without judgement.
A Celebration of Dolores’ Life will be held at a later date.
