Obituary
Diane Huey passed away peacefully on April 29th, 2022, at the age of 86.
She loved her family and is sadly missed by her husband Raymond of 66 years; her Children Lois (Jim), Kevin (Donald), Shelda, and Keith (Bev); her grandchildren Bryan (Cara), Nicole (Rob), Christy (Shawn), and Sue (Ronnie); her great grandchildren Elliet, Annica and Ashford; her sisters Merlin, Ava and brother Carl; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and her last aunt Gwen (Gladish) Sheehan.
Diane spent her life not only raising and caring for her family but as a teacher and ardent defender of education. She was very much loved and highly respected by her many students over the years. She spent many of her teaching years organizing the Dry Grad ceremonies in Princeton and for years taught all the levels of Food Safe for many organizations. And as much as she was an impassioned teacher, she herself was also a lifelong learner.
She loved being a part of the community and was an integral part of many organizations including the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Women’s Institute, the United Church, Drug and Alcohol Prevention and many other Service Organizations. She spent most of Covid crocheting afghans for the Kidney Dialysis program at Penticton Regional Hospital and the South Okanagan Women in Need Society (SOWINS).
Mom loved music and was always very happy to play the piano at Haven Hill, Athens Creek Retirement Lodge, Dr Andrew Pavilion, the Hamlets, Eastern Star meetings, and anywhere there was a piano and people who loved to listen or sing along. She never liked television but would spend many hours listening to CDs and CBC radio.
She loved people and the connections that made them who they were, and had an uncanny ability to remember individuals and their family stories. This allowed her to be an instrumental member of the committee that compiled and published the book Princeton our Valley — an ambitious history of many pioneering families.
Diane was a voracious reader who kept the Harlequin company and a great many magazine publishers in business for decades.
A celebration of her life will be held —details to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Diane’s name to South Okanagan Women in Need Society (SOWINS) or The Kidney Foundation or Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
“Life is a song— sing it.
Life is a novel — read it.
Life is a piano — play it.
Life is about giving — share it.
Life is people — love them.”
