July 15, 1945 – February 10, 2022
After a lengthy battle with chronic pulmonary hypertension, Diane Dixon passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Hogarth Riverview Manor in Thunder Bay, at the age of 76.
She is survived by her partner of 25 years Roger Dugay, her children Brad Salavich (Mike Almond), Tara Salavich (Chris Lind), and her granddaughter Deirdre Lind.
Diane was born in Esterhazy Saskatchewan in 1945, and was raised on a farm in Roccanville, before moving to Dryden, Ontario as a young child. She raised her two children in Barclay with their father Ed Salavich, then moved to Thunder Bay to obtain her undergraduate and Master’s degree in Sociology from Lakehead University.
A life-long learner, Diane studied Secretarial Arts at Confederation College, Sociology at Lakehead University and attended the University of Western Ontario to start her doctorate in Sociology. At Lakehead University, she worked on the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre amalgamation project and for Forestry Futures Trust with Dr. John Naysmith.
Diane was a friend of Bill W for 47 years, well known for her service throughout North Western Ontario.
Her range of hobbies and interests was vast and varied. She bred and showed champion Chihuahuas and English Setters, she was a Girl Guide leader, an avid knitter, a quilter and an arts and crafter. Diane had been an active member of the First United Church of Dryden and most recently the First Wesley United Church of Thunder Bay.
Diane was predeceased by her parents Bernice Dixon (Chilton) and David Elton Dixon and her siblings; Donald, Jean Babij (Paul), Verna Mills (Donald), and Irma Wark (Lyle).
A Celebration of Life will occur next week in Thunder Bay – details to follow. Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.
