GAIGER, Diana Carole (nee Goodman)
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Diana Carole Gaiger on December 15th at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, at the age of 80. Beloved wife of Rick for 48 years and adored mother to Laurie (Conrad), she was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Lauretta Goodman, her sister, Patricia Goodman, and her much-loved son, Michael. She will be deeply missed by her treasured grandchildren, Hayden, Jesse, Cole and Haley, her two very special nieces Jennifer (Gerhard) and Kathy (Mark) and their children, Kevin, Matthew (Magda) and Olivia.
Known to everyone as “Lady Di”, Diana was a ray of sunshine in our lives with her enthusiasm, optimism and positive attitude, making friends everywhere she went. She was born in Hamilton on August 24, 1942 and graduated from Hillpark High School. She spent most of her life in Burlington where she enjoyed a successful career in the packaging industry. As avid boaters, Rick and Diana spent many years sailing the Caribbean and Lake Ontario from Macasa Bay Yacht Club. After retiring in 2004, they took their power boat from Hamilton Harbour down through the eastern U.S. to Florida – with Diana navigating all the way! Retirement winters were spent in Fort Myers, Fla. and summers camping at Arrow Lake near Thunder Bay.
A warm and welcoming host, Diana loved to entertain and was always the epitome of grace and elegance. She made every gathering special and will be greatly missed by many lifelong friends, including Sherry and Bob Mitchell, Randy and Pat Pascoe, Bill & PJ Gillespie, and Ed & Debbie Richardson. A special thank you to the compassionate nurses in the palliative care unit of Joseph Brant. A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4th at Smith Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line, Burlington.
