Devonie was born in Kamsack, Sk and resided on Cote First Nation. Devonie was raised by her father Ernest Cote as she lost her mother at the age of 4. She attended Lebret Indian Residential School in her early school years until she was 16 years old when she became a mother for the first time. She met her first husband Gilbert and together they had 7 children. She was a wife, mother and a grandmother.
Devonie met Patrick in 1990, got re-married and continued to raise her children. Devonie spent a lot of time attending fastball tournaments and soon became herself. She became a pitcher and helped her team win many championships. She realized the importance of education and went back to obtain further education. While living in Key First Nation, she worked at the bingo hall and assisted in the sports and recreation by helping chaperon and mentor the younger athletes.
Devonie encountered many challenges throughout her life. She dealt with the grief and loss of her mother, dad, and her 3 children. She found support from the Church an attended treatment to help overcome her challenges.
In 2012, Devonie met her partner Darnell in Regina. She worked at Evraz Place in banquets for 10+ years. She was always friendly, smiling and respectful with all the people she would see in the work environment. She loved her job and was very proud of it. She loved attending/working the Roughrider football games, the many concerts and meet and greets. She loved spending time with family, she loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, whenever she spoke about them, she spoke proudly of them. She called herself “KOKO DYNAMITE” and the nickname was quick to stick to her.
Devonie was very loving and whenever you were in her presence you felt that love and how much she cared about you. Never a dull moment with her, her energy was vibrant and she was a joy to be around. She loved dancing and jigging any chance she got. She was a protector of her family and loved ones, she would do whatever she
had to do to make sure her family was safe. She always had your back. You were lucky if you had a front row seat to one of her many shows.
She will be missed by everyone who was blessed to know her. Our one of a kind, “TOP SHELF”
