It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, son, brother and uncle, Derek Engen, after a brief battle with aplastic anemia.
Derek died peacefully at the age of 49 and went to be with his Lord and Saviour on October 13, 2022, with his family by his side.
He is survived by his wife Queennie and soon to be born son, his parents Don and Diana, brother Jason (Michele), Apole family, and many nephews, nieces and friends.
Derek was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, on May 5, 1973. He later moved to Winnipeg, where he worked with the Winnipeg School Division for over 20 years.
Derek met the love of his life, Queennie Apole, in 2018, and they married on April 28, 2022, after a four-year long-distance relationship. Despite their short time together, Derek and Queennie were soulmates and were devoted to one another and Derek was thrilled to be expecting a son.
Derek came to a saving faith in Jesus Christ at a young age. He lived a life consistent with the values of his faith and had a tremendous impact on those around him. He loved children and was adored by his nephews and nieces.
Derek was loving, caring, gentle and compassionate and he lived out his faith. He loved singing, playing guitar, children, joking around, being with his friends and he was very competitive. He will be greatly missed.
We would like to thank the staff at HSC and everyone involved for their compassionate care for Derek during his illness.
A memorial service has already taken place and appreciation goes out to Abundant Life Baptist Church and all those involved in organizing the service.
