With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Derek Roger Cathcart on October 17, 2022 at 74 years of age. He was a larger-than-life presence who quickly forged enduring friendships in every room he entered. He will be missed by his wife, Dr. Jeanne Watson; his children, Stephen Cathcart and Jonathan Lowenstein (Sarah Jennings Lowenstein); his granddaughter, Elliot Lowenstein; his sister, Heather Wonham (David Brigden); and nephew, Miguel Wonham (Huidan Sun). He is predeceased by his parents, Mary and Neil Cathcart; and Stephen’s mother, Vivian Cathcart. Derek will be fondly remembered by family and friends in Fort Frances, Rainy River, Bracebridge, Peterborough, Scotland and South Africa; classmates at the Richard Ivey School of Business; and colleagues at Abitibi Consolidated, TD Bank, First Canadian, among others. He had a big heart, a vast library of knowledge, and loved to mentor and provide practical advice to others. Derek travelled the world, found love and friendship, and left his mark. His void will be impossible to fill. A service will be held in Toronto at Morley Bedford (159 Eglinton Ave W) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or we ask that you reflect and find time to do something kind in honour of him. We will cherish his memory.
