Hilchie, Derek Michael, age 50, of Onslow Mountain (Truro) passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.
Derek was the son of Colleen Moore, Hubbards and Michael Hilchie (Starr), Truro.
Derek was a long-time valued employee of R&D Performance, Lower Onslow; his favorite part of the job was interacting with his customers. In his younger years he was introduced to stock car racing by his dad and later, with friends followed the Maritime Pro Stock Tour; and shared the love of this sport with his son Matt. Derek loved to play hockey and enjoyed his snow mobile during the winter season

Derek is survived by his twenty-one-year-old son Matt; his uncles Earle (Sharon) Moore, Deep Cove and Mack Moore, Halifax; first cousins Stephanie Moore, Vancouver and Greg Moore (Andrea) Blandford. Derek was predeceased by his older brother David Hilchie; paternal grandparents Frank Hilchie and Frances (MacInnis) Zitto and maternal grandparents Tick and Phyllis Moore.
The family wishes to thank Stevie, Craig, Kirby, and others for their many visits and phone calls during his ten-week hospital stay.
Cremation has taken place a visitation will be held on Thursday, September 1st from 6-8 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. In lieu of flowers donations maybe made to the Liver Foundation or the Kidney Foundation. A private burial will be held at a later date.
