It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Derek Christopher Mrazek on Friday, February 4, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born April 12, 1971, in Sydney, he was the son of Edward and the late Florence (MacDonald) Mrazek.
Derek was very passionate about snowmobiling. He and Barbara loved the Sunday Night Mixed Dart League at the Branch 12 Legion. He was a long-time member of the Westmount Volunteer Fire Department.
Besides his father, Derek is survived by his loving wife, Barbara (Burke); daughter, Madison; sister, Theresa (Roger) Mullins; brothers, Edward Jr. and Kenny; brother-in-law, John Burke (Melanie); and many nieces and nephews.
Derek was predeceased by a sister, Debbie in infancy; father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Charlotte Burke; and sister-in-law, Margaret.
A funeral service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at 2 p. m. with Mr. Gary Grant officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery at a later date. Covid-19 protocols will be followed. Double vaccination, ID and masks are mandatory.
Thank you to the staff in the An Cala Unit and the Cancer Center at the CBRH. Also, a special thank you to Tracie, Sean, Charlie and Lana.
Memorials may be made to charity of choice.
