Obituary of Dennis Stanley
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Stanley on February 28th. He is survived by his wife Sammie Stanley, his daughter Sara Symonds and her husband Steve Symonds of London, Ontario and his son Jason Stanley and his wife Leah Rumack of Toronto, Ontario, as well as his beloved grandchildren Sophie, Henry and Benjamin.
Dennis was born in Owen Sound on May 18, 1943 to Lloyd (Rugg) Stanley and Marie Dorothy Barrett, and spent many happy years in Owen Sound surrounded by friends and raising his family with his late wife Lee Anne Stanley (Thornton) until her death in 2007. Dennis donated countless volunteer hours to his small, tight-knit community for many organizations including the Harry Lumley Centre, the Owen Sound Granite Club, the Owen Sound Golf & Country Club and the Grey Bruce Home Builders Association. Dennis parlayed his lifelong love of sports into working with several Minor and Junior League Sports Teams, and he had a long career with the Bank of Nova Scotia where he got to do the two things he enjoyed the most—helping people and talking!—all day long. Dennis spent the last few years of his life in Florida, where his jovial and giving nature meant that, once again, he was quickly rich in friends and a valued board member of his condo association. Dennis will be greatly missed by his family, his many friends and his stepchildren Hal, Mitch, Lori and their families.
Cremation has taken place and memorial visitation will be held at the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 – 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492 on Friday, March 4, 2022, from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. A memorial service to celebrate Dennis’ life will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel and will be livestreamed from the funeral home website. Inurnment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation Oncology department would be greatly appreciated and can be made through the funeral home.
