It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather. Dennis Ritchie Smith passed away suddenly on Wednesday November 17th, 2022, at home in Ajax, ON.
Dennis leaves behind his beloved wife Kathryn Celia (nee Brandt). Kathy and Dennis were married 52 years ago at the church of St. Andrew, Scarborough, the Brandt family church since 1956. He was loving Dad to his three children, Kimberly (Stephen), Gregory, and Tristan, and devoted Grandad to Liam, Callum, and April. He is survived by his brother in-law Rod Brandt (Alan).
Dennis was a longtime resident of Wexford, Scarborough, born to parents Lilian Smith (nee Lott) and Duncan Smith, on March 10, 1944. He attended Winston Churchill Collegiate, and graduated in 1969 from the University of Toronto, with a Masters degree of Science in Software engineering. Dennis worked throughout his life as an accomplished software engineer. He was a longtime software developer for Cherniak Software Development corp.
Dennis was a devoted member of the Church of St, Andrew; He served as a three time Warden, Finance Committee Chair, Stewardship Committee Chair, Communications Committee Chair and Newsletter editor. Dennis also shared his love of photography throughout his church life as ‘official’ photographer at church events.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Please join us in celebrating his life on Wednesday November 30th, at the Church of St. Andrew Scarborough. Visitation, 12:30 pm. Funeral Service, 1:30 pm. Reception to follow. Donations may be made to the Church of St. Andrew.
