Dennis Brisson AT MD FRCPC 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Dennis Anthony Thomas Brisson in Windsor, Ontario on Tuesday March 1, 2022 at the age of 89.
Dr. Brisson is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dolores, with whom he was blessed with five children, Louis (Christine), Natalie Renaud (Don), Monique Aversa (Piero), Judge (Angie), and Michael (Alison). He enjoyed the love of 19 grandchildren: Rebecca (Chris), Matthew, Joe, Claire, Greg, Gisèle, Marc (Vanessa), Matthew (Victoria), John, Vanessa (Rafae), Andrew (Nicolette), Veronica (Hunter), Alexander, Isabel, Adrien, Nancy, Noël, Natalie, James, and one great grandchild, Kareem.
Dr. Brisson was an ear, nose and throat surgeon who graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1957, practiced general medicine in his hometown for a few years before completing his specialty training in New York City. He had a private practice in Windsor for more than fifty years and was a tireless worker who cared for thousands. Following the closing of his practice, he continued to work long and late hours assisting younger surgeons who respected his expertise and enjoyed his company. In particular, he assisted local obstetricians on over 5000 C-section deliveries bringing joy to many families in Windsor Es.
Outside of medicine, he was enthusiastic about learning of all kinds, and he was prepared to share his knowledge with those who would listen, and from time to time, with others who would not. History, poetry, music, and above all, the origin of words were subjects on which he passionately preached. It would be inaccurate to call it a “hobby”, but pinching pennies while negotiating prices with purveyors of local produce was also a frequent pastime. He always loved a good deal.
A passage of Henry Longfellow’s “The Village Blacksmith”, one of his favourite poems, provides a most suitable epitaph:
Toiling,—rejoicing,—sorrowing,
Onward through life he goes;
Each morning sees some task begin,
Each evening sees it close;
Something attempted, something done,
Has earned a night’s repose.
